Since 2006, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has been sponsoring research on driving behaviors and traffic accidents. The 2011 study, released in January of 2012, had some shocking discoveries.
Some of the study’s major findings include:
- Nearly one of every two Americans has been involved in a serious crash, has had a friend orrelative seriously injured or killed in a crash, or both
- 14% of drivers surveyed admitted to drinking and driving at least once in2 011
- During the survey period, 26% of drivers admitted to typing or sending a text message or email while driving. 35% report reading text messages or emails while driving.
- 52% of drivers said they drive at least 15mph over the speed limit on freeways, and 25% surveyed said they do not consider speeding on a freeway an issue.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the leading causes of traffic accidents are driving while impaired, driving while distracted (texting, etc.), and aggressive driving (speeding). If you have been seriously injured in a car accident caused by another driver’s negligence, you have every right to seek compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
If you have been injured or a loved one has been killed by a negligent driver, please contact an experienced traffic accident attorney in your area to learn more about your rights and the true value of your injury claim.
