A 21-year-old actress was crossing Broadway and 14th Street in Manhattan, New York when she was struck and killed by a city dump truck. Instead of stopping, the dump truck driver decided to flee the scene of the truck accident. Although police caught up with the driver six days after the fatal truck accident, he has yet to face criminal charges.
The mother of the actress is now suing New York City in a case with the Manhattan Supreme Court, seeking $30 million in damages on behalf of her daughter. The lawsuit alleges that the dump truck driver never even received a traffic ticket. The intersection where the woman died is well-known as a hazardous area, but the city has failed to take action to make it safer.
The woman was the mother’s only child. Her lawyer stated that all the mother is living for now is to obtain justice against the people responsible for her daughter’s death, and to ensure the intersection is changed to protect other vulnerable pedestrians in the future.
