In Birmingham, many people are injured because of the negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct of an individual or company. These people have the opportunity to file a personal injury lawsuit with the help of a lawyer in their state. Unfortunately, not all people that call themselves lawyers are reputable or able to properly launch a lawsuit. Membership in the Birmingham Bar Association is the reassurance needed to insure that an individual is qualified to present a court case.
In 1885, the original 19 members of the Birmingham Bar Association met for the first time. From that humble beginning, few could have anticipated how influential and important the bar would become over the course of the next century. Today, the Birmingham Bar Association has over 3000 members, publishes a forty-page quarterly bulletin, a monthly newsletter, maintains an internet web site, provides for social activities for its members through an entertainment committee, and has an established trust fund to aid its needy members, now totaling over $100,000 dollars.
The mission throughout the development of the bar has remained the same. It is “… the social and literary advancement of the members – especially their advancement in the profession to which they belong.”
