BMW announced a recall of certain 7-Series vehicle models from 2005 to 2007. Specifically, the auto manufacturer is recalling defective vehicles that have optional features known as Comfort Access and Soft Close automatic doors. The BMW recall is estimated to affect 7,485 total vehicles.
BMW filed the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, stating that a software problem may cause the car doors to open without warning – even after they seem safely closed and latched. Road and driving conditions or even contact with occupants could cause the doors to open unexpectedly, BMW said. This sudden opening could lead to a serious car accident, or the ejection of a passenger while the vehicle is still in motion.
During the recall, BMW dealers will repair and update the software. People who own vehicles covered by the recall can contact BMW at 800-525-7417.
