Thirty-year-old boxer Paul Williams – who is scheduled to fight Mexican champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September at the Las Vegas MGM Grand – was injured in a serious motorcycle accident near Atlanta, Georgia on Monday. He has no feeling in his waist after the accident and is scheduled to undergo surgery this upcoming Wednesday.
According to Williams’ manager, the boxer swerved into another lane to avoid contact with a vehicle and ended up losing control of his motorcycle. While some people are concerned that Williams will never fight again, his promoter said that a conclusion can’t be reached until the boxer undergoes surgery. The goal of his surgery will be to stabilize the upper (healthy) half of his spine.
Because motorcycles lack an external protective covering, motorcycle accidents often result in serious or deadly personal injuries. If a distracted driver cuts you off or otherwise causes your accident, you can and should hold them accountable for negligence. Defective motorcycles can also cause you to get into an accident, in which case you can pursue compensation from the manufacturer.
