Last December, 39-year-old Angela Wright was commuting to Temecula for her job when her car slid off of a flooded section of Goetz Road into Salt Creek and the East Bay. A Sheriff’s dive team from Riverside County was able to recover the car several hours later, but Ms. Wright was already dead.
A wrongful death lawsuit was finally filed last week on behalf of the woman’s three minor children, who claim that the incident could have been prevented if the flooded section of Goetz Road that caused the accident had been closed to traffic. According to the lawsuit, the three children suffered from:
- Loss of funeral expenses
- Loss of companionship, love, and society
- Loss of financial and moral support
Furthermore, the wrongful death suit states that the City of Canyon Lake, Riverside County, and the City of Menifee all jointly controlled the flooded section of Goetz Road and were aware of the hazards that occurred when rainwaters flood the dry riverbed that intersects the road.
