Interstate 10 in Tempe, Arizona was closed down on Thursday morning after a fatal truck accident. The collision occurred on the Broadway Curve near Southern Avenue just prior to 5:30AM. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the truck driver was killed in the accident.
Based on accident reconstruction accounts, the crash occurred when the trucker lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the median wall, sending debris into several westbound lanes. The debris struck two vehicles, and a third vehicle slammed into the tractor-trailer after it crashed.
The cargo area of the big rig was on one side of the freeway, and the cab was over the freeway’s median wall on the other side. Firefighters were still trying to control flames in the back of the track a half hour after the truck accident.
