On Thursday morning, a 26-year-old man was arrested for causing a fatal DUI crash that killed his father, who was a passenger in his Chevy Blazer. When the driver rear-ended a street sweeper on Dorchester Road in North Charleston, his 58-year-old father died from massive head and face trauma. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, the car accident happened at around 2AM. Two other passengers inside of the Blazer were also injured, one of whom ran home out of fear, and then proceeded to contact emergency services. The driver did not cooperate with police and had to be restrained until further units arrived.
Drunk driving crashes cannot technically be called “accidents,” since the driver always makes a conscious choice to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while they are impaired, putting other people’s lives at risk. Even when a DUI crash is not fatal, victims can be left with serious injuries that will affect them for the rest of their lives.
