An unlicensed driver from Las Vegas was traveling on West 39th Street in Yuma when he collided with three pedestrians – one of whom is now in critical condition at a Phoenix hospital. The other two victims of the pedestrian accident sustained injuries, but none that were life-threatening. After being treated at the Yuma Regional Medical Center, they were released.
The Yuma Police Department believes that alcohol was a factor in the accident, and has detained the driver for three counts of aggravated assault. According to Yuma police, the drunk driving accident occurred in the early morning hours. As the pedestrians were crossing the roadway, the 30-year-old driver struck them with his Mercury Grand Marquis.
Whenever an intoxicated driver gets behind the wheel of a car, they are making a decision to endanger the lives of their passengers and everyone else on the open road. Lives can be lost or forever changed because of one person’s reckless decision.
