According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is currently warning patients to avoid unapproved flu treatment products that are frequently sold online, including the so-called “generic Tamiflu” and “Berkely-Body-Immune Flu Prevention.” Gary Coody, the National Health Fraud Coordinator, sated that these dangerous drugs could contain the wrong medications. In the past, the agency has tested products that claimed to be Tamiflu and found penicillin derivatives or acetaminophen alone, which can pose serious problems.
The FDA has similarly warned dietary-supplement suppliers about making false or misleading claims about the “anti-viral” abilities of their products. Some of the pharmacies that received this warning included:
- Discount Online Pharmacy
- Kosher Vitamin Express
- Medsnoscript
- Oasis Consumer Healthcare LLC
- Secure Medical Inc
- Sung Drug Store
- Vitalmax Vitamins
- University of Berkeley
