Ford Motor Company recently announced a voluntary recall of all 2013 Ford Escapes with the 1.6-liter engine. Specifically, vehicles built through July 11, 2012 are subject to a potential engine defect that can cause a serious auto accident. Approximately 11,500 of these vehicles are current on the North American market.
The 1.6-liter engine has a faulty engine compartment fuel line that has the potential to split and leak, putting users at a high risk of underhood fire. So far, no injuries have been reported as a result of this defect. Ford is encouraging owners of affected vehicles to contact their dealer as soon as possible for the needed repair, and not to drive the vehicle in the meantime.
The repair should not take more than an hour for the Ford dealership to complete, depending on how many parts are available. Ford estimates that if affected owners take action quickly and have the repairs completed as advised, all of the defective vehicles can potentially be fixed in less than two weeks.
