On Thanksgiving Day, 140 vehicles collided in Southeast Texas, ending the lives of two victims and injuring over 80 others. The tragic car accident occurred on an extremely foggy morning on Interstate 10, south of Beaumont. Cars began to spin out of control, and several tractor-trailers ended up twisted on top of each other. The couple that died was in a Chevrolet Suburban SUV.
Out of the 80+ injured victims, around a dozen were in critical condition. According to law enforcement officials, the fog was so thick that police didn’t immediately realize that more than one crash was happening. Accidents occurred on the other side of the highway, apart from the pileup.
Interstate 10’s eastbound lanes did not re-open until Thanksgiving evening, when over 8 hours had passed. The people who were not injured in the car accident tried to help deputies sort through the crashes and injuries. Despite being overwhelmed, the Good Samaritans were holding seriously injured people and sitting with them while waiting for emergency personnel.
