On Thursday, a rear-end auto accident involving two different pick-up trucks pushed the first truck into the path of a motorcyclist, leaving the rider with catastrophic personal injuries. Police were forced to shut down two miles of Lowell Boulevard to give a medical helicopter room to land. The motorcyclist was in critical condition last night; observers said the motorcycle accident almost severed one of his legs.
Paramedics worked to stabilize the man before he was airlifted. Police plan to subpoena the two pickup truck drivers in order to gain access to their cell phone records, since they suspect distracted driving may have contributed to the auto accident. Apparently, the accident was so traumatizing for witnesses that the Trauma Intervention Program of Merrimack Valley tended to a bystander who stopped to help the motorcycle accident victim.
Because they have no external protection, motorcyclists are more vulnerable to serious injury than any other motorist. When the negligence of another driver causes an accident this devastating, the consequences can reverberate for years to come. Medical bills, physical therapy, lost income, loss of your ability to work, and the physical pain and suffering caused by motorcycle accidents can be an overwhelming burden for victims and their families.
