According to state police, a woman from upstate New York was run over and killed by a dump truck early this morning. The truck driver apparently failed to see the 54-year-old motorcyclist when she stopped at a red light in front of him. When the light turned green, he accelerated too quickly, striking the motorcycle from behind and dragging it a short distance.
The motorcycle accident occurred north of Albany in the town of Halfmoon, while the woman was heading south on Route 9. She died at the scene of the accident. Police are still conducting an investigation into the truck accident, but for now, no charges have been filed against the trucker.
Because of their small size and relative lack of external protection, motorcycles are some of the most vulnerable vehicles on the road. When a motorcycle collides with a large commercial truck, the motorcyclist is typically the one who suffers serious injury or death. If negligence on the truck driver’s part is to blame for a fatal motorcycle accident, they can and should be held accountable through a wrongful death lawsuit.
