A 22-year-old man was injured in a rollover car accident that caused a wide range of destruction in West Milford, New Jersey. A pick—up truck struck a tree, a boulder, and two utility poles, bringing down high-tension wires that set part of the Greenwood Lake Turnpike on fire. The driver claims he lost control of the vehicle, which went airborne after first slamming into the boulder. It ended up on its side.
The man, who miraculously suffered only minor injuries, was charged with careless driving. According to authorities, he was still conscious when he was removed from the pick-up truck, probably due to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt. The high-tension wires that started the fire were reportedly so hot that they burned holes into the asphalt and created a hazard for officials.
Reckless driving can cause more than just a car accident – it can lead to many other hazards for pedestrians, bicyclists, and people in the area. If the fire had not been quickly contained, it could have spread to homes and caused further damage. When someone’s negligence or recklessness leads to the serious injury or death of another, that person should be held accountable through a personal injury lawsuit.
