More than 100 determined victims of asbestos exposure came to the U.S. Senate this week. Thier goal was to speak out against allowing companies responsible for asbestos related diseases including mesothelioma to walk away clean, as they are attempting to do with S. 852, a flawed bill that Senate is to debate this week. Because of this bill, many asbestos victims would die before compensation. It is therefore opposed by every major asbestos victims’ organization. Interestingly, it is also opposed by taxpayer rights organization and some parts of the insurance industry.
One of one asbestos victims who visited the Senate, Charles Sales, suffered mesothelioma from his asbestos exposure. The asbestos bailout bill would obliterate his lawsuit against the responsible companies and force him to wait for a huge federal bureaucracy to form before he could receive any financial aid, leaving his young wife and two-year-old daughter with overwhelming medical bills and virtually no financial help.
