A new study that looked at the sleep and driving habits of teens and young adults found that those who reported getting less than six hours of sleep a night were 20 percent more likely to be involved in car accidents.
The study, which included youths aged 17-24, found accidents were more likely between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The percentage by which sleep deprived teens are more likely to be involved in accidents was reached after relative factors including the age the driver, the number of hours driven per week, driving behavior and habits, and previous crash history had been considered.
