State Bar of Montana

In the State of Montana, many people are injured because of the negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct of an individual or company. These people have the opportunity to file a personal injury lawsuit with the help of a lawyer in their state. Unfortunately, not all people that call themselves lawyers are reputable or able to properly launch a lawsuit. Membership in the State Bar of Montana is the reassurance needed to insure that an individual is qualified to present a court case in front of Montana courts.
The State Bar of Montana is the organization that represents legal professionals in the state of Montana. All lawyers and attorneys are required to become members of the bar. The bar is active in promoting many programs that benefit the legal profession and the public. The association actively promotes legal ethics, continued legal education, and a high level of competence among all lawyers in Montana.
Admittance into the Bar association is very selective. Every potential lawyer in the state must pass the Bar Exam, complete legal education requirements, and pass an aptitude assessment. All members must also agree to a code of ethics.
The voluntary Montana Bar Association was established on January 8, 1885. Four years later, it had developed a standing committee on legal education and admission to the Bar. In 1974, admission to the bar was declared mandatory by the Supreme Court in order to increase the power of the organization and to insure that every lawyer in the state was of the highest quality.
