State Bar of New Mexico

In the State of New Mexico, many people are injured because of the negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct of an individual or company. These people have the opportunity to file a personal injury lawsuit with the help of a lawyer in their state. Unfortunately, not all people that call themselves lawyers are reputable or able to properly launch a lawsuit. Membership in the State Bar of New Mexico is the reassurance needed to insure that an individual is qualified to present a court case in front of New Mexico courts.
The State Bar of New Mexico is the professional organization that represents members of the legal community in New Mexico. The association works to promote the interests of the legal profession. Programs that improve legal education, foster good ethics, and improve relations with the public are designed to meet this goal.
Established in 1886, the State Bar currently has over 7,429 members. A Board of Bar Commissioners governs the State Bar, all of who are licensed attorneys elected by their peers from designated Bar Commissioner districts around New Mexico. The Board of Bar Commissioners, together with the staff, carries out the purposes of the State Bar of New Mexico.
Members of the bar have access to a wide variety of programs aimed at improving client relations, ethics, law office management, practice resources, training, and development. The Center for Continued Legal Education is one division of the bar with tremendous impact upon the New Mexico legal community. Every year, it sponsors countless education programs. Legal professionals have access to curriculum specifically aimed to benefit their individual practice, including those with a focus on personal injury law. Internet classes are even available. Because of the many programs, the bar is a united and inclusive organization that serves the legal profession and the public.
