The State Justice Institute (SJI) is the federal organization that was established in 1984 to facilitate easier communication between state and federal courts. The Institute also works to foster innovative, efficient solutions to common problems faced by all courts. Since its foundation, the Institute has used over $120 million on over 1,000 projects that benefit the nation’s judicial system and the public that it serves. SJI is so influential because it alone has the authority to assist all state courts, including criminal, civil, juvenile, family, and appellate courts as well as all federal courts. The State Justice Institute has greatly improved the judicial system in the United States, and it will continue to do so.
