A 14-year-old girl from Anderson County was struck and killed in a tanker truck accident late Friday night. The crash occurred at the intersection of Ballard Road and Highway 29 in Pelzer, South Carolina.
According to authorities, the truck was carrying 8,800 gallons of gasoline when it struck the car at an intersection. The cab of the truck separated from the tanker, ending up in a wooded area. Meanwhile, the tanker flipped over and caused a small gas leak, but no explosion.
Two other people – an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old – were in the car with the young girl, but they are expected to survive their injuries. The driver of the tanker truck was not injured. Police are still investigating the cause of the truck accident.
