On Wednesday, a tractor-trailer struck a school bus that was carrying two dozen students and adults in western Pennsylvania. The collision killed the tractor-trailer driver and injured at least 21 o9ther people – most of them students. According to state police, the truck accident occurred near Rockwood on Route 281 just after 2:30PM.
After crossing over into the southbound lanes of the highway, the truck hit the bus nearly head-on, killing the trucker. Details have not yet been released about the other victims’ injuries, but a hospital officer has confirmed that at least one adult is in critical condition. Eight people were rushed to Somerset Hospital via ambulance, while another 7 to 10 people with more minor injuries arrived by bus.
When large commercial trucks are not operated with the utmost caution, they can cause untold damage. All it takes is one moment of lapsed judgment for a serious injury or death to occur. Often, it is not only the truck driver’s negligence that leads to an accident; it is the negligence of a trucking company that failed to perform adequate maintenance, or made impossible demands of the truck driver that led to the circumstances of the truck accident.
