Last week, a Nevada car accident sent 72-year-old Senator Harry Reid of Nevada to the hospital. Police have now cited two drivers as the responsible parties in the accident. Both drivers were part of the senator’s caravan. According to the police report, Michael Percival of Washington DC was driving a 2011 Ford Expedition and following the vehicle in front of him too closely, which caused the crash. He was cited for an unsafe lane change.
The other driver, Cory Mikkelson of Las Vegas, was driving a Ford pickup truck registered to the Metropolitan Police Department, and was also cited for following the car in front of him too closely. This caused a chain-reaction accident that involved six different vehicles – four of which were members of Reid’s caravan. One civilian vehicle was involved, and one semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck left the scene; investigators were never able to track him down.
Senator Reid was in a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban with two other passengers. He was rushed to the ER at University Medical Center with minor injuries, including hip and rib contusions. Some of his security detail and staff also suffered minor injuries.
