A Los Angeles woman recently filed a slip-and-fall accident lawsuit against William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman. She allegedly suffered serious injuries after slipping on a stairway at their home in Hollywood Hills. According to the complaint, the home’s stairs lacked regulated handrails and were “dirty and poorly maintained.”
The lawsuit goes on to accuse Macy and Huffman of negligence, because they “knew or should have known” that the stairwell’s conditions could easily lead to a serious personal injury – yet they failed to warn her about the danger. The documents do not clarify the woman’s relationship to Macy and Huffman, or why she was at their home when the accident occurred. She is reportedly suing for damages of over $25,000, including medical expenses and lost wages.
Slip-and-fall accidents are a common type of premises liability case. When a property owner fails to maintain the safety of their premises and someone is seriously injured as a result, they can and should be held accountable. However, slip-and-fall cases can be difficult to prove in court without the help of an experienced premises liability attorney.
